Comments on actual changing of Zagreb street names by Laura Šakaja

Laura Šakaja discusses the actual changing of the name of the Marshal Tito Square in Zagreb which has become one of the central topics of political debates in Zagreb City Assembly. “ Street and square names are an excellent media for communication of political actors with the public because street names present ideological and political standpoint and they can thus become a norm” says Šakaja in an interview for N1 TV (22.7.2917.)

“Street names are an inventory of historical events and persons. They are apt for ideological and political manipulations because they create everyday life urban landscape (…) They figure as collective cultural memory and oblivion…” says Šakaja for t-portal  (22.6.2017.)
