Nevena Škrbić Alempijević is an associate professor at the Department of Ethnology and Cultural Anthropology, Faculty of Humanities and Social Sciences, University of Zagreb. She received her PhD at the same Department in 2006. She teaches the following courses: Cultural Anthropological Problems of the Mediterranean, Performance Studies in Ethnology and Cultural Anthropology, Anthropology of Social Memory, Ethno-cultural Problems of South-East Europe, Places as Spaces of Social Memory. Areas of her scientific interest are: anthropology of social memory, anthropology of place and space, island studies, performance studies, studies of carnivals, festivals and other public events. She co-edited a scientific monograph titled “Tito Revisited. Celebrating the Day of Youth in Kumrovec”, for which she was awarded the Croatian Ethnological Society’s annual award in 2006. In 2013, together with Petra Kelemen, she obtained the Faculty of Humanities and Social Sciences annual award for the book “The Town as it Should Be. Ethnological and Cultural Anthropological Reflections on Festivals”.
